A wedding reception aboard a Carnival ship

Carnival weddings

The most affordable route to a ship wedding with a big guest list, especially dockside in a Gulf or Florida port.

The Cruise Bride coordinates the sailing, the cabins and the guest travel. The cruise line runs its own wedding program where one is offered.

Carnival is the practical answer when the guest list is large and the budget is real. Fares are low, the ports are spread across the Gulf and the East Coast so most families can drive, and the dockside wedding format is well practised.

Nobody books Carnival for the elegance, and that is fine — a Carnival wedding is a family party on a ship, and family parties on ships are extremely good. The staff run these constantly and the process is smooth.

Watch the guest experience beyond the ceremony. Cabins are more compact than on premium lines and the specialty dining is where the quality jump happens, so build a little of that into the plan for the people travelling furthest.

Within one cruise line, the gap between two ships is wider than the gap between two cruise lines.

Choosing the ship

Which Carnival ship suits the day you want

Within one cruise line, the difference between two ships is larger than the difference between two cruise lines. Relaxed, affordable and unpretentious, with dockside ceremonies that are genuinely easy for a large family to attend.

Carnival offers dockside, ashore in port, symbolic at sea ceremonies where the ship and itinerary allow, and sails from Galveston, Miami, Port Canaveral, New Orleans, Long Beach, Baltimore. We start from the ceremony you want and work back to the ships that can actually deliver it on your date.

Season matters as much as hardware. The same ship on a school-holiday week and on a late-September sailing is two different weddings, and the quieter of the two is usually cheaper.

The room at seven in the evening

Pick the atmosphere, then the price

Fares inside a category sit close together. What differs is the room your people are standing in on the wedding night, and that is not something a price comparison shows you.

We shortlist ships by how the evening actually feels — noise, dress, dining style, the age of the crowd — and only then check what each one costs your group.

How the booking works

Where we stop and the Carnival wedding department starts

Carnival runs its own wedding programme with its own calendar, deadlines and pricing, and it owns the ceremony itself. We do not resell it or mark it up.

What we hold is everything around it: the sailing, the group block, the deposit schedule, the guest communications, the pre-cruise hotel and the transfers. In practice the two calendars have to be run against each other, and that is the part couples find hardest to do alone.

Programmes and inclusions change between seasons. We confirm what is currently offered on your exact ship and date before you plan around it.

Planning timeline

A realistic timeline for a Carnival wedding

Eighteen to twelve months out, the only decisions that matter are the ceremony type and the sailing. Everything else — florals, attire, the reception menu — is downstream of those two, and locking them early is what keeps the rest calm.

Twelve to eight months out we open the group block and take the first deposits. This is the step couples skip and later regret: once a popular sailing crosses about eighty per cent sold, keeping twenty guests on the same deck stops being possible at any price.

Eight to four months out, the cruise line's wedding department confirms the ceremony slot, the venue on the ship and the package inclusions. In parallel we chase every guest for a passport that is valid at least six months past the return date.

Inside ninety days, final payment falls due, the guest list stops changing, and we publish the single page that tells each guest their flight window, hotel night, boarding time and what to wear. From that point your job is the dress and the vows.

What your guests spend

The number that decides who comes to a Carnival sailing

Attendance is set by the total a guest has to find, not by the fare you quote them. A seven-night inside cabin at $899 per person becomes closer to $1,400 once port fees, gratuities, a pre-cruise hotel night and travel to the terminal are counted, and that is the figure a cousin with two children is actually weighing.

We give every guest that honest total in writing before they book, along with a deposit schedule that spreads it over months rather than asking for it in one payment. Couples who do this see materially higher attendance than couples who send a fare and hope.

Where the group block earns amenity credit, we normally put it toward the things guests notice: a drinks package for the reception, or covering the gratuities on the wedding-night dinner. It is worth more as hospitality than as a discount split forty ways.

Questions couples ask

Answers before you commit to anything

Carnival handles ceremonies through a wedding programme with its own booking calendar, deadlines and pricing. We coordinate the sailing, the cabins and your guests; the line runs the ceremony itself. Programmes change, so we confirm what is currently offered on your exact ship and date.

The celebration begins before you ever reach the ship.

Share your dates, your guest count and the kind of ceremony you have in mind. We will come back with sailings that fit, and a plan your guests can actually follow.
